“the etching of sao I”, 2024 is a poetic video art piece that intertwines mythology, personal memory, and cultural identity. Through its two complementary segments—animation and live-action—it meditates on the universal human longing for connection: to others, to the past, and to oneself. The project takes its inspiration from the Vietnamese concept of sao (star), a word dense with meanings: a celestial guide, a symbol of permanence and impermanence, and even a question about existence.
