The red wolf is one of the rarest canids in the world, however, its taxonomic classification as a separate species is widely debated and consequently, the red wolf has been excluded from many endangered species lists despite their diminishing numbers and impending extinction. I used a range of soft pastel pencils to capture the grey and tawny hues of the wolf’s sparsely furred pelage. The composition of the solitary wolf and black background were chosen to highlight the red wolf’s critically endangered status.
