Kaye Mcfadyen

Statement

My recent works were inspired by the islands of Skye, Harris, and Lewis, capturing the sensory essence of these islands. I listen to the landscape as I walk and, this helps me to create a memory in my mind’s eye.

I use abstracted qualities of light, scale and atmosphere with the hope that a viewer can almost feel the wind on their skin and the earth beneath their feet.

I am highly influenced by nature and the elements,  my paintings can be wild and free as I tackle the raging elements in the landscape or calm and otherworldly as I seek a sense of beauty.

I work organically until I feel a sense of the island appearing, and I usually recognise the exact spot in the landscape. Sometimes, I can see many other influences in the same painting, such as the movement of the sea and wind or the patterns created by light on the water. I am ultimately looking for a sense of place.

I am pushing through a barrier into a greater sense of space enticing me to move forward and take a huge breath as the landscape evolves and evokes a sense of acceptance.
