FIONA GRAHAM

Fiona is a Glasgow based artist. After studying History of Art at university she returned to painting to become a full-time professional artist. Working mainly in acrylics on board she enjoys painting mostly urban landscapes with her home city of Glasgow being a constant source of inspiration. Many of her paintings depict recognisable, well loved areas, often the West End,others are lesser known or "grittier"areas. Through the medium of acrylics she explores the effects of changing light on urban architecture, and how nature and the seasons can create different moods. She particularly enjoys trying capturing the city's iconic tenement buildings in the half light,as daylight fades and lights come on .The versatility of acrylics lends itself to capturing the different textures of stonework, with layering , stippling, staining etc., working quickly or slowly, loosely or with fine detail. Catching a fleeting moment, a glimpse of city life out the corner of your eye,the ordinary everyday that can be beautiful but often goes unseen continue to provide a constant and enjoyable challenge!

Statement

I am a Glasgow based artist. After studying Art History at St Andrews University I returned to painting full time. Working mainly in acrylics, I enjoy painting urban landscapes, with my home city of Glasgow being a constant source of inspiration.

Many of my paintings depict recognisable and well loved areas of the city, often the West end, whilst others show the lesser well known, sometimes "grittier" parts.

Through the medium of acrylics I can explore the effects that changing light and the different seasons etc have on the architecture of the city.I particularly enjoy capturing Glasgow in the half light, when daylight fades and lights come on.

I find the versatility of acrylic paint perfect for depicting textures and tones of Glasgow's wonderful and varied architecture.

I exhibit regularly in galleries around Scotland.
